Somalia’s Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi calls for a halt to the elections

The speaker of Somalia’s upper house of parliament, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, and politicians from the north issued a joint statement on the country’s elections.

First of all, the members who spoke about the northern agreement in Somaliland in this letter came out of the timetable of the disputed election commission.

They also pointed out that these committees are appointed by the government without consultation, and there are also large numbers of local councilors, the army, commanders and supporters. .

I would also like to add that the only person who is destined to be elected is to be included in the consultation, and the members of the Supreme Council, Mr. Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, have been appointed.

For the first time, a statement from Abdi Hashi Abdullahi and politicians from the north called on the leaders of good governance, candidates, politicians and civil society organizations to suspend the elections, pending a formal agreement to address the electoral process. in the country.

The call comes as the commission is still embroiled in controversy over the election timetable for the bicameral legislature.
