US forces say they have targeted a group of al-Shabaab militants during a raid on the Somali National Army, which it attacked.
In a statement, AFRICOM said: “AFRICOM targeted a self-defense attack against al-Shabaab terrorists in the Jubaland and Security Forces near the Koban area in Lower Juba, April 9th. ”
AFRICOM also reported a second attack in Jilib, today April 10th.
On April 9th, AFRICOM claimed that 10 al-Shabaab fighters were killed, while one was killed today.
AFRICOM said both shells did not harm civilians.
AFRICOM has increased attacks in recent months against al-Shabaab, and is the Deputy Director of Operations Brig. Gen. Miguel Castellanos said the shelling had a strong impact on the al-Shabaab terrorist network.
