Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has succeeded in his recent efforts by providing a new base for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in the town of Jigjiga in the Somali region of Ethiopia, according to Africa Intelligence.com.
Intelligence.com reports that AMISOM troops will remain in Somali territory, especially along the Somali-Ethiopian border.
The AMISOM base in Jigjiga, which trains troops taking part in operations against al-Shabaab, will also provide security in Ethiopia.
The new AMISOM base will also facilitate operations in Somalia, which has been in conflict for more than 14 years.
Ethiopia is part of a UN mission, and troops in Somalia to engage in Hiran, Bay, Bakool, Gedo and Galgadud.
However, unknown to plan ahead Abiy Abiy Ahmed will accept other countries in the troop in Somalia.
