Unidentified armed men have on Monday night gunned down Abdiqani Guhad, a senior Somaliland Intelligence officer, in Lasanod, the administrative capital of the Sool region
According to reports, the officer was shot dead near his residence in the heart of the town by men armed with pistols who later fled from the crime scene.
The motive of the attack was not immediately clear but similar incidents have been reported in the city in the past.
Somaliland Police forces initiated a manhunt operation in the city in search of the men behind the killing but no arrests have been made.
Last month, the town’s regional court chairman Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was reportedly killed after a bomb attached to his car detonated.
So far, the security agencies and regional officials in the province have not yet commented on the killing of the officer but intensive operations are underway in the town..
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the killing in the town.
