Notice: Function amp_is_available was called incorrectly. `amp_is_available()` (or `amp_is_request()`, formerly `is_amp_endpoint()`) was called too early and so it will not work properly. WordPress is not currently doing any hook. Calling this function before the `wp` action means it will not have access to `WP_Query` and the queried object to determine if it is an AMP response, thus neither the `amp_skip_post()` filter nor the AMP enabled toggle will be considered. The function was called too early (before the plugins_loaded action) to determine the plugin source. Please see Debugging in WordPress for more information. James Swan urged the federal government of Somalia to establish and prepare bills of sexual offences and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

UN representative to Somalia, James Swan urged the federal government of Somalia to establish and prepare bills of sexual offences and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

As the world marks International Women’s Day, The U.N. envoy for Somalia expressed the need for bills to women and girls in Somalia.

“The United Nations also encourages renewed attention by national leaders to the draft Sexual Offences Bill and Female Genital Mutilation Bill, as cornerstones for the protection of women’s rights in Somalia,” a statement by Swan reads in part.

The envoy applauded the role of Somali women in their country’s progress saying they have demonstrated tremendous courage, strength and dedication in the face of many challenges, including protracted conflict, lack of security, natural disaster and political instability.

“Somali women have made important contributions as Somalia rebuilds and continues on its path to peace and stability,” said Swan.

He urged greater efforts to ensure their participation in all spheres of Somali society.

“Women’s equal rights, opportunities and participation are vital ingredients in realizing the Somali national development agenda,” Swan said. “Only collective action by all, including people in power can make it happen.”

Every year, 8th March, world celebrates international Women Day.

The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.’
